The Galena-Jo Daviess County Historical recently secured a generous amount of federal funding to support a major digitization initiative preserving and expanding access to important historical materials documenting the history of Galena and Jo Daviess County.

The $300-thousand dollars was included in the latest federal appropriations bill through an earmark secured by Senator Dick Durbin.

The initiative will allow the Society to digitize records, papers, photos, and artifacts chronicling the development of Galena between 1820 and 1870.

The digitization efforts will occur in conjunction with the development of the new Galena and U.S. Grant museum under construction.
