Marquette Catholic Back to State Championship Game

Today at the Iowa High School Boys State Basketball tournament, the Bellevue Marquette Catholic Defenders will attempt to win the first basketball championship in school history.

Last night the #6 seed Defenders now 25-and-2 advanced to the title game for the third straight season with a 65-56 win over #2 seed MMCRU in the 1-A semifinals.   

The Defenders led all but the first few minutes of the game to build an 11 point lead at halftime.  Solid shooting at 52 percent on the night helped carry Marquette Catholic back to the title game led by Louis Gonner with 17 points, Justin Severson and Koen Roeder also were in double figures with 13 points each. 

Today Marquette Catholic will meet Fort Dodge Saint Edmonds for the state title at 5 o’clock. You can hear the game this afternoon on AM 1370 and radiodubuque.com with pregame at 4:40pm this afternoon.
