National Sports media report Creighton men’s basketball coach and Cascade native Greg McDermott will be retiring at the end of the season after 16 seasons.
Sports Illustrated says McDermott will coach through the Bluejays’ run in The College Basketball Crown—a still-new postseason invitational tournament set to run from April 1–5 in Las Vegas. Once he steps down from the role, McDermott will be succeeded by coach-in-waiting Alan Huss.
Under McDermott, Creighton reached the NCAA tournament 10 times, including three runs to the Sweet 16 and one to the Elite Eight over the past five seasons.
Previously McDermott coached 4 seasons at Iowa State and 5 seasons at Northern Iowa.
