Over the weekend the Archdiocese of Dubuque announced which parishes will no longer hold weekend Mass as part of a consolidation plan impacting thousands of Eastern Iowa Catholics.
The Archdiocese will reorganize its 160 parishes into 24 pastorates beginning July 14th. It’s part of a yearlong “Journey in Faith” discernment process. Archbishop Thomas Zinkula said the consolidation is needed to reflect drops in church attendance over the years.
Under the new model, a pastorate will group parishes to work more closely together by sharing pastoral leadership, ministries and resources. Zinkula said each pastorate has been assigned a pastor and one or more parochial vicars.
