The 116th running of the Drake Relays begins in earnest later today on the Big Blue oval in Des Moines. There are 170 events scheduled with 27 on today, 78 Friday and 59 on Saturday.
This evening Western Dubuque senior Quentin Nauman, the 2025 Drake Relays outstanding high school boys’ performer, will attempt to lower his meet record in the 3,200 set last year. Tomorrow Nauman will try to defend his title in boys high school 800.
Tonight former Loras College NCAA Champion Kassie Parker is part of the field in the women’s invitational 10-thousand meters. She won the 10,000 at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships.
Several other local high school and college athletes will be in action throughout the meet.
