The Dubuque Metro Area Solid Waste Agency is working to increase battery recycling opportunities in the county. Officials say batteries and battery containing devices not disposed of properly can cause fires damaging collection vehicles and recycling and solid waste facilities which lead to increased insurance cost.
The agency says you should never toss batteries in your recycling bin or household trash. In response, the agency has placed special collection containers to recycle batteries, tablets, phones, and cords. The bins are located at:
- City of Dubuque Municipal Services Center on Kerper Court
- Carnagie Stout Public Library
- Dubuque County Library branches in Asbury and Peosta
- Dyersville City Hall
The Regional Collection Center at the Dubuque County Landfill also accepts batteries and battery containing devices.
