Severe Storms with very heavy rainfall pounded Dubuque and the Tri-State area yesterday afternoon and evening.
Rainfall totals over 2 inches and up to 5 inches fell in less than 4 hours in many area creating widespread flash flooding conditions. Street flooding was occurring in downtown Dubuque, with water up to the bumpers of vehicles in areas around West Locust Street. Many other roads were impassable for a time and a section of Highway 3 north from the intersection of the Northwest Arterial was closed due to water over the road.
In Wisconsin: A flood warning for the Pecatonica River near Darlington is in effect. There were many reports of 3 to 4 inches of rain falling in southwest Wisconsin.
Strong winds of over 60 miles per hour also knocked down numerous trees and some powerlines. As of 5 this morning, Aliant Energy reports there were still 815 customers in Jones County without power, 330 in Clayton County without power, and 131 customers in Dubuque County.
The Cascade and Bernard areas appear to be the hardest hit with significant damage to some structures reported with numerous trees down. Several outbuildings were destroyed between La Motte and Highway 52.
