Train Derailment Clean-Up Continuing in NW Illinois

Clean up crews continued to work through the night to clear wreckage caused by a train derailment in the Jo Daviess County village of Nora.

According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, 17 train cars carry ethanol derailed yesterday just after midnight.

The Jo Daviess County Emergency Management Agency coordinated with Canadian National Rail to clear damaged railcars. Authorities say hazardous materials from the derailed cars is being removed and environmental monitoring is ongoing.

Officials estimated the approximately 100 residents who were evacuated will be allowed to return to their homes sometime this morning
