At the Iowa High School State Boys Basketball Tournament the Marquette Catholic Defenders couldn’t withstand a fourth quarter charge by Fort Dodge Saint Edmond Gaels and fell 54-42 in the Class 1A state championship game last night at the Casey’s Center in Des Moines.

The Defenders carried a 39-36 lead into the fourth quarter but Saint Edmond outscored them 18-3 in the final frame to win the state title. The Gales also had a huge advantage at the foul line making 12 of 24 with Marquette making 3 of 3 at the line.

Marquette finished as the state runner up for the third season in a row with a final record of 25-and-3.
