Dubuque Police say a new scam is targeting families of those who have been arrested.

Police say the scammer used public documents about local arrests in which a bond was set and then contacted the family of the person arrested. The scammer then claimed the person arrested could be enrolled in a pre-trial release program if the family paid $17-hundered dollars via Apple Pay.

Police warn not to fall for the scam and always be cautious of unsolicited communications asking for money or personal information.

Anyone who has been the victim of a scam should contact police and file a report.
