Coverage partner KCRG reports the Dubuque City Council voted last night for a proposed property tax increase of up to 3 percent, but several council members suggested a lower tax hike.
City officials said the average Dubuque homeowner would see their annual bill go up by $26.68 under a proposed three percent increase.
Council member David Resnick suggested using the city’s anticipated nearly 27-million dollars reserves to lower the tax burden on homeowners.
Residents have about a month to tell the city what services to fund and what to cut. The city will hold a public hearing Tuesday, April 28, to adopt a budget for fiscal year 2027 in that meeting, the city council will decide what to do about property taxes.
Until the final public hearing on April 28, the city council will hold a recommended budget presentation on April 6, followed by public meetings on April 7, 9, 13, 15, 16, 21 and 22. Residents can also comment on the fiscal year 2027 budget online.
