A prominent Dubuque philanthropist has died.
95-year old Alice Butler passed away on Wednesday. Butler and husband John Butler the chairperson of Cottingham and Butler have impacted the Dubuque Community in a number of ways donating millions of dollars especially at the University of Dubuque.
The donations to U-D included a matching donation creating John and Alice Butler Hall in Heritage Center and recently the Butlers donated $60 million to the university to open a medical school currently under construction. The couple also helped complete the recent Inspiring Spaces financial campaign for Holy Family Schools
A visitation for Alice Butler will be held Tuesday from 3:30 to 6:30 at University of Dubuque’s Butler Hall. Private family funeral services will be held.
