City Approves Lot Purchase For Proposed University-Asbury Roundabout

Dubuque City Council

On a unanimous vote Monday night, the Dubuque City Council began the process of being able to eventually build a proposed roundabout at a heavily travel intersection which currently has a three-way stop.

With the vote the city agreed to purchase the empty lot at the corner of 2300 University Avenue at its intersection with Asbury Road for $650-thousand dollars. The lot was the former location of Butt’s Florist.

The purchase will allow the city to develop the roundabout and potentially sell any of the land that is not needed for street and sidewalk. Construction is not expected to begin for several years.

The roundabout is one of four planned along a one-mile stretch of University Avenue designed to aid traffic flow.
