Former Hempstead Prep Anterio Thompson 6th Round Pick of Atlanta Falcons
Former Hempstead High School football player Anterio Thompson heard his named called in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday.
The Atlanta Falcons took the 6-foot-4, 310-pound defensive lineman with the 208th overall pick in the sixth round.
Thompson, who played last season at Washington University became just the second football player from Hempstead High drafted. Tom Rusk was the first in 1979.
The last Dubuque native to be drafted was Pete McMahon in 2005.
A total of 7 Iowa Hawkeye football players got drafted including six on Saturday.

Fighting Saints Fail to Close Out Lumberjacks
There will be a deciding game 5 of the USHL Eastern Conference semi-final series between the Dubuque Fighting Saints and the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The Lumberjacks kept the series alive with a 4-2 victory last night in Muskegon. The deciding game five will be played Tuesday night in Dubuque at ImOn Arena.
