Amish Barn Near Belmont Destroyed
An Amish barn was destroyed by fire late last night near Belmont Township.
Platteville firefighters received the call around 9:40 last night to the farm located on West Mound Road. Platteville Chief Ryan Simmons says crews were there for about 2 and ½ hours working to make sure the fire didn’t spread to other structures. He says the building was already a loss by the time they had arrived. Belmont and Cuba City fire departments assisted.
There were no injuries, but about four-thousand chickens perished in the blaze which started from a propane heater. The estimated loss was at between 100 and 120-thousand dollars.
