Dubuque Man Pleads Guilty To Robbery Charge In Connection with Fatal Shooting.

A Dubuque man has entered a guilty plea to charges of 2nd degree robbery in connection with the fatal shooting of 31-year old Lonnie Burns in February 2023 outside his home on Rhomberg Avenue.

29-year old Terry Valrie entered the plea during a hearing this morning in Dubuque County District Court. As part of his plea deal, a charge for first degree murder was dropped.

A sentencing date will be held at a later day.  Valarie faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

Valrie was the last defendant left in the case to enter a plea deal or be tried.

  • Earlier this week, 27-year old Kenneth Reed of Indianapolis was sentenced to 10 year in prison on a robbery charge.
  • Earlier this year, 25-year old Aaron Johnson of Chicago was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of first degree murder and first degree robbery.
  • 30-year old Jermaine Bolds of Dubuque received 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of 2nd degree murder
  • 17-year old Tiarha Godwin of Maquoketa received 2 years of probation after pleading guilty a charge of accessory after the fact.
