The Iowa legislature worked a marathon weekend to put a wrap on the 2026 session.

The key piece of legislation dealt with property tax reform. Lundgren says the bill approved included several key provisions for homeowners and local governments.
A new 2 percent cap has been placed on the growth of local government general fund levies. Also the Homestead Tax Exemption is increasing to 20-thousand dollars, and a new class of multi-residential property has been created, which will be taxed at a higher rate than single-family homes.
