The Dubuque Police Department officially has hired a new Chief of Police.
Last night the Dubuque City Council unanimously approved current assistant chief of police Joe Messerich as the next chief as was recommended by the city manager last week.
Messerich brings two decades of law enforcement experience to the position, joining the department as an officer in 2001 and advancing to assistant chief of police in 2022. He’ll replace Chief Jeremy Jensen, who is retiring on August 3rd.
