Julien Dubuque Bridge Project Starts June 1st, East Dubuque Assisting Businesses Who Could Be Impacted

A multi-phase Iowa Department of Transportation repair project which will cause partial and full closures of the Julien Dubuque Bridge will begin on Monday, June 1st. The repair work is expected to be going on until mid-September.

During the closures, traffic on U.S. Highway 20 will be detoured using the Iowa-Wisconsin Bridge. The bridge will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the project.

In the project’s initial phase, the eastbound lane of the bridge will be closed each weekday from 6 in the morning until 3 in the afternoon with evening and overnight closures at times.

Beginning in early July, the work will require a full closure of both lanes of the bridge. This phase of the project is expected to be completed in early August.

The final phase of the repairs will see daytime closures of the westbound lane of traffic.

The City of East Dubuque is taking steps to help reduce the potential impact the planned closures of the Julien Dubuque Bridge between Iowa and Illinois will have this summer.

Earlier this week, the East Dubuque City Council passed a one-time assistance program for East Dubuque businesses to help them continue to grow and remain successful through the summer bridge closure project.  The assistance available includes a limited amount of city budgeted funds for advertising assistance, reducing liquor license costs for affected businesses, and other support.
