State High School Track Championship Saturday Recap

It was a gold medal day for some area athletes competing on Championship Saturday at the Iowa High School State Track Meet in Des Moines.

The Wahlert Catholic girls 4×400 won the teams 2nd relay title of the weekend and set a new 3A meet record time of 3:52.04. (Schermann, Belken, Ellis, and Brosius)

Quentin Nauman of Western Dubuque won a state title it the final race of his decorated career taking the title in the 1600 for the second straight year. Nauman finished his high school career with 10 state track titles.  Nauman placed 3rd in the 800 meters.

Keenan Kilburg of Bellevue claimed gold in the boys 1A 100 meters finishing in 10.98. Kilburg also won the 400-meter hurdle title on Friday.

Other medalist efforts from Saturday from the area:

  • The Wahlert Catholic girls also placed 3rd in the 4×100 and were 7th in the Sprint Medley. Wahlert finished 6th in the 3A girls team race.
  • The Western Dubuque girls had a state runner up in the Sprint Medley, 3rd place in the Shuttle Hurdle, and 8th place in the 4×100. The Bobcats placed 11th in the team standings.
  • The Western Dubuque boys had a 3rd place in the 4×100, 5th place in the Sprint Medley, and 5th in the Shuttle Hurdle. The Bobcats were 3rd in the 3A boys team race.
  • The Wahlert boys finished 6th in the 4×100.
  • The Senior boys had a 7th place medal finish in the Sprint Medley.
  • The Bellevue boys placed 4th in the 1A 4×400.
  • The Bellevue girls had a 4th place finish in the 1A 4×100.
  • Micah Fern of Hempstead 7th in the 4A 800 meters
  • Ben Francis of Wahlert 8th in the 3A 100 meters
  • Leah Lambe of Bellevue was 3rd in the 1A girls 200 meters.
  • Haley Williams of Western Dubuque place 4th in 3A girls 200.
  • Tate Hosch of Cascade was 5th in the 2A boys 200.
  • Lucy Murphy of Wahlert medaled in 8th place in the 3A girls 1500.
  • Emma Chesterman of Senior placed 8th in the 4A girls 1500.
